The good ice, for reals.

This thing makes the am/pm good ice and it is wonderful. If you are a beverage forward household, this is worth the price tag. I have it set to turn on in the morning and turn off around bedtime through the app. It doesn't take very long at all for this thing to give you a full pint glass of ice after being turned on. By the time I'm done with my morning coffee routine, I have enough for the first seltzer of the day. I did not purchase the side tank version and I believe the money saved there was worth it. Can it be a little annoying to fill? Yes, only because our Brita pitcher can't fit in there- I end up using the included ice scoop as like a funnel. My wife and I use ice all day and I would say I refill it about 2 times daily. Fits under standard height cabinets on the counter just fine. The depth is where I feel like it should live on the counter next to the fridge or on its own cart or bar area. So far no issues over the last two weeks and we use it every single day. This is a splurge purchase for sure. But dang, it is a good feeling splurge.

Produces ice, but runs almost 24hrs a day and sounds just a bit quieter than an ice cream maker. Our kitchen is never quiet anymore. Ice is inconsistently melted/refrozen in chunks or expected pellet ice. And 3 days after I plugged it in, the app is told me it needs to be descaled. Family likes the pellet ice, but I expected a lot more given the price.

Makes the "good" ice…but…This unit is a replacement for my 1stBuild #496. They both make noises during their making cycles but this GE is easily 3x louder than the 1stBuild…rattles…buzzes…hums…and slurp-slurp-slurp. Not what I expected from a $600 appliance…and not what I expect from GE's premium Profile Series line…. Here's the uptick…As a retired GE Home Appliance Service Tech…The water-pump is sub-par, the active subsystems need more dampening, the removable panels need felt strips, and the outer encasement needs insulation…do that and you have a product worthy of the "Profile" name…

This is our second Opal - we initially had the model from first build. That one had a lot of issues, it was very loud, leaked out the front, and had a big issue with mineral deposits in the tubing which were difficult to clean out. The side tank made the leaking worse and we couldnt use it. This model seems to have fixed the leaking issue and is nicer looking. It's still pretty loud, but not as loud as the old one. I recommend running the cleaning cycle quarterly to avoid the issue with mineral buildup. The ice cannot be beat - so satisfying for anyone who loves chewing on ice, and a lot more affordable than an under-counter ice maker (although price point is still a little high)

The ice machine is a little loud while making the ice and goes through water really fast. I fill our machine up with water at least once a day, besides that the machine produces ice pretty fast and recirculates the melted ice fast as well. The drawer for the ice tends to leak down the front of the machine when you pull it out, so we have to keep a cloth in the tray they provide for the machine. Overall it is a good machine with a little upkeep.

Product came as expected, intact. For a high end GE product could be more seamless, certain aspects are cheap and does not fit properly (base for side tank). My wife and I have been contemplating buying the opal 2.0 with side tank for quite some time now. $600 is a decent amount of money to spend on an ice machine. Spent a few weeks watching video reviews, and reading other peoples reviews. If you're not certain about buying it, and you need/want an ice machine, BUY IT!! You will not regret it! We have an issue with our refrigerator ice maker and I did extensive research to find this!!!!! So happy we bought. We make about 9 lbs a day. Kids love eating the soft ice. It works great so far. The ice is delicious and the appliance works as advertised. There's a slight bit of weirdness when you add water to the external tank where you have to lift it up and shake it a bit to get a good siphon going between the tank and the main unit. It's no fuss at all though. Other than that it works great.

Makes great nugget ice in very little time!

We ordered our Opal 2.0 online. It arrived with seriously sturdy packing and in pristine condition. We had it up and running in about thirty minutes including initial cleaning. Directions were clear and setup could not have been easier. Within another half an hour, we already had a cupful of ice. The ice seems slightly denser than popular restaurant ice but, surprisingly, I think I prefer it. It holds up longer in soda, so less watering down, but still has that satisfying soft crunch. We could not be happier with it. If you are on the fence about this machine, just do it! It is pricey, but compared to it's commercial counterparts, this is a huge bargain.

Great Ice Maker

It's so good to always have this type of ice on hand. It's great for my wife and myself. Makes additional ice rather quickly too! Would highly recommend as an excellent ice maker for your countertop. I like the way it recycles the water from melted ice.

Love the ice, but…

I bought this because both of my sisters have it and love theirs. I love the ice…when I get it. My machine constantly says add water…even though the reservoir is COMPLETELY full.

Great ice maker. Love the nugget ice. The best. Quiet. This is our third Opal device. We were on board since GE dreamt it up!! Hoping the price goes down as time does on.

It made ice 2 times after that had to call GE
